Netflix and Skydance’s The Old Guard has added Chiwetel Ejiofor.

He joins a Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne-led cast that also includes Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts and Luca Marinelli.

The Old Guard will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. It is Skydance’s film adaptation of the fantasy comic book written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández. Rucka will write the script.

Based on the graphic novel, The Old Guard‘s story will follow “a covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.”

Ejiofor’s will play Copley, a non-immortal, ex-CIA operative who hires the fighters for a rescue mission. Previous reports stated that Theron’s Andy, the immortal group’s leader, “battles alongside two opposing soldiers from The Crusades; a French Renaissance thief; and the latest recruit, Nile, a U.S. Marine who will be played by Layne.” Its authors have described the source material as “fairytale of blood and bullets.”

The UK’s Daily Mail first reported the new casting.
