'The Old Guard': Netflix Lands KiKi Layne And Charlize Theron's Action Film Directed By Gina Prince-Bythewood

After reports first surfaced of their casting in the film last week, the KiKi Layne and Charlize Theron-led action film has landed at Netflix, according to Deadline.

The Old Guard will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. It is Skydance's film adaptation of the fantasy comic book written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández. Rucka will write the script.

The Old Guard's story will follow "a covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed."

According to the report last week, "Theron’s Andy battles alongside two opposing soldiers from The Crusades; a French Renaissance thief; and the latest recruit, Nile, a U.S. Marine who will be played by Layne." Its authors have described the source material as "fairytale of blood and bullets."

Layne appears next in Native Son at HBO. She earned critical acclaim for her role in the film during it Sundance debut. She also appears in March's Captive State from Focus Features.
