Tyler Perry scored big time with primetime soap opera Tyler Perry’s The Oval. The series is now in its second season on BET and delves into the personal lives of the people in power and the staff in the coveted White House.

Hunter and Veronica Franklin (Ed Quinn and Kron Moore) lead the drama as the nation’s President and First Lady and behind the scenes of the Oval Office, they are anything but picture perfect.

In a chat with Shadow and Act about the new season, Moore says there’s a secret ingredient to the show’s success. “I think that Tyler has outdone himself with The Oval in that it’s the first show of its kind, at least that I’m aware of. We’re not dealing with politics, we’re dealing with the relationships in the White House. We’re dealing with pulling back the curtain on the First Family… and then we’re following the support staff home into their personal lives and digging into what their experience has been like.”

Quinn agrees, noting that the messiness within the storylines is what keeps viewers tuned in.

“We created a whole lot of messes in season 1 and you’d think we’d figure out a way to calm those messes but instead it gets even messier,” he explained.

As for how to describe season 2, Moore says it’s provocative and she looks forward to fans seeing the development of certain sub-characters. Quinn goes a bit further, describing the season as explosive. But for Quinn, there’s a message he hopes viewers will take away from the show.
