The Black Muslim Girl Fly Film Festival is about to launch for its third year, and in preparation, founder and filmmaker Nia Malika Dixon and Audaz Entertainment have announced a call for submissions. The festival will take place virtually Dec. 13 in partnership with Seed & Spark.

Filmmakers can submit their films through Film Freeway. The festival is seeking feature and short films, documentaries and docuseries, animated content, web series and episodic content, and virtual and immersive content. Submitted films must center around this year’s festival theme, “freedom.” According to the festival, the theme focuses on telling stories “through the lens of the power of sharing our stories, affirming our presence and being our salvation.”

Films must include a female who is Black and/or identifies as Muslim from the African Diaspora on camera or behind the scenes. The submissions window closes Nov. 10.

Several high-profile filmmakers and producers will be a part of the festival’s panel this year, including Amatus Karim-Ali, Jinn director Nijla Mu’min, Mooz-lum writer/director Qasim Basir, filmmaker Malika A. Shabazz, Dear White People producer Effie T. Brown, actor/producer Fanshen Cox, Black Girls Rock! producer/director Quan Lateef-Hill and The Blacklist actor Hisham Tawfiq. Writer/filmmaker/executive Thembisa MShaka will give the festival’s keynote.
