Netflix’s experimental dating show The Ultimatum has wrapped its first season and the fate of the six original couples were revealed during the reunion special. The premise of the show followed six couples, one of which had given their partner an ultimatum to marry them or lose them. Each person was able to swap partners for three weeks for a trial marriage before returning to their original partner for another three weeks before making one final decision: propose to their original partner, walk away with their trial spouse, or leave the show single. Viewers were surprised by the outcomes.

Alexis didn’t make a good impression on any of the men she wanted to be paired with during the pairing phase, with the men viewing her as shallow. She gave Hunter the ultimatum and got her wish after he proposed during the selection process. Their wedding is scheduled for June 2022 and Hunter’s mother, a wedding planner, is in charge of the wedding.

They remain together and engaged, but there are no wedding plans. They also got engaged during the pairing phase, after Nate’s two choices to be paired with Shanique and Madlyn didn’t pan out. The biggest hangup for the two was starting a family, which Lauren was opposed to. But after seeking out couple’s therapy together, they’ve settled on having one child together.

Madlyn and Colby

This was a shocker for many. Colby was devoted to Madlyn from the start, but she seemed ready to date other people with no care in the world for Colby. She even said she’d turn down his proposal and when paired in atrial marriage with Randall, was eager to get physical with him. But in the end, she said yes to Colby’s proposal and the two wed on the spot. They are expecting their first baby together.

They remain together, with Randall proposing in the end after being given the ultimatum. But after the stress of the show, getting back to real life was not an easy transition. In fact, they split for six months. The couple has reconciled and said they are taking things slow.

Apryl and Jake

Jake was given the ultimatum and instantly caught feelings for his trial spouse, Rae. It was clear to Apryl that Jake was checked out. Jake ended things in the season finale, promising he wasn’t going to pursue anything with Rae, which was a lie. He invited Rae to travel the world with him, something both claim they opted not to do. Now April is seeing someone new. Jake says he’s still single. He also believes Apryl preferred fame over their relationship.

Rae and Zay

The couple split in Ep. 8 after Rae, who gave Zay the ultimatum, realized she didn’t want to be with him anymore. She couldn’t even tell producers why she loved him before the whole experiment started. During the reunion, they said they reconciled briefly but it didn’t last. Rae was also upset that during his trial marriage, Zay was intimate with Shanique. Zay remains single, as Rae revealed she’s exploring her bisexuality.
