Netflix Renews 'The Umbrella Academy' For Season 2

Fresh off its first season, The Umbrella Academy is coming back to Netflix by popular demand. The superhero drama was renewed for a 10-episode second season by the streaming giant.

The Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of the comic book of the same by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way. Netflix’s latest success chronicles The Umbrella Academy — Luther, Diego, Allison, Vanya, Klaus and Number Five — a group of estranged siblings who also happen to be superheroes.  In the first season, Mary J. Blige portrayed Cha-Cha, a tuxedo-clad time-traveling assassin intent on murdering the intrepid sextet of sibling superheroes.

The first season starred Academy Award nominees Mary J. Blige and Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin Min. Right now Page, Hopper, Castañeda, Raver-Lampman, Sheehan, Gallagher and Min are set to return for the show’s second season, with additional casting announcements set to be made soon. Production on The Umbrella Academy is set to begin in Toronto this summer.
