Fans are up in arms over Condoleeza Rice’s appearance on The View, particularly her conversation with Sunny Hostin and Whoopi Goldberg.

According to the Atlanta Black Star, the former secretary of state, was argumentative with the lawyer and The View host about the importance of investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection.

“I think it’s really politically expedient for Mitch McConnell to say, ‘Let’s move on, let’s move on,’ said Hostin about Mitch McConnell’s recent comments about the insurrection. “Especially when the former, twice-impeached, disgraced president enjoys attacking Mitch McConnell, but the problem is, the past will become prologue if we don’t find out exactly what happened on Jan. 6.”

Rice responds, “Our institutions have to be upheld.” She also cuts Hostin off, saying, “You know what…I’m a political scientist and unless I can see the questions that were actually in that poll, unless I can see the assumptions [that] were in that poll, I’m not going to take for granted that poll was great.”

She also had words with Whoopi Goldberg about the fight over critical race theory, saying that while she wants Black history to be taught and for Black children to be empowered, especially since she grew up in Birmingham, AL when it was a segregated city in the 1950s, she didn’t want white kids to feel guilty about being white.

“This is a conversation that I think has gone in the wrong direction,” she said.

Fans took to Twitter to complain about Rice’s seemingly flippant energy on The View, with one commenter writing, “She was brazenly condescending toward Sunny. How many times did she cut Sunny off? The fact that she couldn’t listen to anyone else’s perspective tells you all you need to know about Condi Rice. ‘I have no desire to be in the spotlight of politics which is why I came on The View.”

Another commenter wrote, “Watching Condoleeza Rice on The View today was very disappointing, upsetting & triggering as Black woman.”

“I expect nothing less from Condoleeza Rice and her comments on Critical Race Theory,” wrote another. “She’s a very smart woman who articulates her arguments in ways that are palatable but don’t be fooled she’s [peddling] right wing talking points. We need Critical Race Theory.”

Goldberg was recently at the center of another controversy on The View when she was the subject of sizeist remarks by Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran. Corcoran apologized for her comments after a large backlash.
