The Hollywood Reporter has released its list of the top 25 stylists working in the industry today, and several of the names are of Black creatives.

Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald, who dress clients such as Tessa Thompson, Regina King, KiKi Layne and Mary J. Blige, were a part of the list, as well as Van Van Alonso, who styles Mahershala Ali. Law Roach, whose clients include Tiffany Haddish, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Ariana Grande, and Ade Samuel, who styles Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright, were also among the top 25.

Rounding out the list of Black stylists are Jason Bolden, who styles Ryan Coogler, Serena Williams, Janet Mock, Yara Shahidi and Ava DuVernay, and Cheryl Konteh, who styles Idris Elba and Kate Winslet.

Konteh, Samuel and Alonso are also among the newcomers added to the list. This honor is excellent since it shows that Black creatives are, slowly but surely, earning more respect and renown in the industry. It’s well-earned, too, since all of their clients were among the best dressed of the 2018-2019 red carpet season.

With clients like Ali, Thompson, KiKi Layne, Zendaya and others continually up for amazing roles, we are apt to see more of these Black stylists’ work on the red carpet. We can’t wait.
