Did you know Ava DuVernay’s mom made an appearance in When They See Us?

DuVernay’s mother, Darlene Maye, had a cameo in her daughter’s Netflix miniseries about the Exonerated Five and the Central Park Jogger case.  Maye can be seen at a desk in a newsroom within the second episode’s first two minutes. DuVernay tweeted images from the set the day her mom was in costume, writing, “If anyone spots her, just know you’re looking at the best mommie this girl could have.”

This isn’t the only parental cameo in the film. Raymond Santana’s father, Raymond Santana Sr., also makes a cameo in the scene when Yusef Salaam (Ethan Herisse) is taken into custody.

When They See Us is currently streaming on Netflix.
