The upcoming film They Cloned Tyrone has cast John Boyega in the lead role. The project is the directorial debut from Creed II writer Juel Taylor that is produced by MACRO.

As we reported back in February, Brian Tyree Henry was originally in talks for the film.

The Hollywood Reporterwho first reported the news of Boyega’s casting, also has updated plot details, which were scarce when Henry was attached earlier this year. Netflix’s attachment to the film is also new.

The report says, “Likened to ‘Friday-meets-Get Out,’ the film is described as a pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper, in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood.”

Taylor, Jeremy Rettenmaier (who co-wrote the script with Taylor) and Stephen “Dr.” Love are the producers. The film is expected to begin shooting at the beginning of 2020.

Boyega is one of the busiest stars in Hollywood. He has the upcoming Star Wars film set for release soon and down the line he has the drama Naked Singularity, as well as the Steve McQueen series Small Axe and the sci-fi romance Hold Back the Stars. The two latter projects co-star Letitia Wright.
