NBC has renewed This Is Us for three more seasons, planning through what will likely be its conclusion.
“In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of ‘This Is Us’ and we couldn’t be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand. A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show’s inventive and compelling storytelling,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Presidents of Scripted Programming, of NBC Entertainment in a statement received by Shadow And Act.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will likely wrap after its sixth season, although NBC wants it longer. “Insiders stress that Fogelman sees the series ending with season six, while NBC remains optimistic that its mega-hit could live on beyond that,” the trade magazine’s report says. This isn’t entirely surprising as creator Dan Fogelman and the show’s brass often spoke about the six-year plan, and often calls Season 3 the “middle point.”
This Is Us chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s to their 37-year-old kids Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) searching for love and fulfillment in the present day.
Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Hannah Zeile, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Eris Baker, Faithe Herman, Lonnie Chavis and Lyric Ross also star.
Fogelman, Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, Ken Olin, Charlie Gogolak and Jess Rosenthal executive produce. This Is Us is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
