'This Is Us' Will Officially End With Its Sixth Season At NBC

As has been expected for a while, This Is Us will end with its upcoming sixth season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC is poised to make the announcement on Friday ahead of upfronts as the show will wrap during the 2021-22 broadcast television season. It was renewed through its sixth season back in 2019.

"In a television landscape with nearly 500 original scripted series, there are very few, if any, that have the critical and cultural impact of This Is Us and we couldn't be more proud to bring fans three more seasons of a show that so well represents the NBC brand. A huge thank you and congratulations to our executive producers, cast and crew who reach new heights every week with the show's inventive and compelling storytelling," said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Presidents of Scripted Programming, of NBC Entertainment in a statement received by Shadow And Act at the time.

"Insiders stress that Fogelman sees the series ending with season six, while NBC remains optimistic that its mega-hit could live on beyond that," said a report back in 2019. This wasn't entirely surprising as creator Dan Fogelman and the show's brass often spoke about the six-year plan, and often calls Season 3 the "middle point."

This Is Us chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s to their 37-year-old kids Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) searching for love and fulfillment in the present day.

Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Hannah Zeile, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Eris Baker, Faithe Herman, Lonnie Chavis and Lyric Ross also star.

Fogelman, Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, Ken Olin, Charlie Gogolak and Jess Rosenthal executive produce. This Is Us is produced by 20th Television.
