Tiffany Haddish is supplementing her movie career with TV hosting, including hosting CBS’ Kids Say the Darndest Things and the upcoming TBS nighttime show Friday Night Vibes. Haddish spoke with Shadow And Act’s Trey Mangum for Shadow and Act’s Opening Act podcast, talking about why she loves hosting and what she thought of the news about her being shortlisted to take over Ellen.

Haddish said she always loved the idea of hosting since she was a kid, and hosting Kids Say gives her a chance to fulfill her childhood wishes.

“I always wanted to be on Star Search, and I always wanted to be that person that was given someone an opoprtunity to share their talent. And I always wanted to be person getting to share their talent. So what better way to do that than have a variety show of some sort?” she said. “So when they approached me about Kids Say the Darndest Things, I was like, this is great because it’ll be kids talking about themselves, talking about their talents, talking about what they know, and this is a way for society to see where we stand, where our future is going. The kids are really a great barometer of where we’re headed because they absorb everything around them and to listen to them is so good. And I get to show a little bit of my talent, they get to show me what they can do, I get to show them what I can do, it’s super fun.”

As far as the discussions about her possibly taking Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, she verbally waved them off as nothing but unsubstantiated rumors.

“Everybody started talking about, ‘Oh, Tiffany’s taking over the Ellen show.’ I’m not doing that! The streets be talking a lot, right? But actions speak louder than words,” she said. “…I was literally going over all of the different press releases over the past three years and like, maybe six of those things never happened because the streets be talking, but they don’t be talking to me. Talk to me.”

“I would love to do a daytime talk show, but let’s be honest, I’m a nighttime type of person,” she continued, adding that her nighttime sensibilities make her the perfect person to host Friday Night Vibes.
