Tiffany Haddish Reveals She's Been Training With Flo-Jo's Husband Al Joyner As Prep For Biopic

Actor and comedian Tiffany Haddish is gearing up for her upcoming role as Florence "Flo-Jo" Joyner in a biopic about the track stars' life. She is going the extra mile to make sure that her portrayal is portrayed is accurate and worthy of one of her heroes. Haddish has already shown off her physical transformation for the role, and now she has revealed that she has been training with Flo-Jo's husband, Al Joyner, to perfect her technique on the track.

Haddish spoke to MadameNoire bout her training with Al, a hall-of-fame track athlete in his own right. Haddish talked about the intense workout sessions preparing for her role, saying:

“Some days it’s really strenuous. Some days it’s like ‘come on give me another challenge!’ But he’s definitely taught me a lot,” she said.

Haddish went on to say: “The technique is everything. Her technique was impeccable and I mean if you look at the young lady who broke one of her records with that technique, it’s all about form. Once you get that down, the speed will come. Getting to know him and the family on that journey has been quite interesting.”

Haddish also spoke about her change in diet to reflect Flo-Jo’s dedication and help her physical transformation for the role, telling the publication:

“I have been changing the way I eat for sure and definitely blocking off time to workout and do training…I lost 40 pounds and then I got a little bit in my feelings about some stuff going on in real life and gained 15. Now I lost about 10 of that, so you know it’s a journey.”

She wants younger generations to know about her 'she-ro'

Haddish isn’t cutting any corners and seems very dedicated to doing justice to Flo-Jo in her portrayal of her and the telling of her story. Haddish wants the biopic to reach future generations saying:

“I am looking forward to telling Flo-Jo’s story the way it should be told,” she said in a previous statement. “My goal with this film is making sure that younger generations know my ‘she-ro’ Flo-Jo, the fastest woman in the world to this day, existed.”

Tiffany Haddish is all in for her biopic, and her dedication and preparation for the role are great to see. There is currently no release date for the Flo-Jo biopic.
