Editor’s note: For most purposes, Haddish has been called the first black comic to host the show. Technically, she not the first black female comic to host ‘SNL,’ as former SNL cast member Maya Rudolph returned to host in 2012. Rudolph was an SNL regular from 2000-2007. Also, contrary to popular belief, Whoopi Goldberg has not hosted Saturday Night Live. 

Tiffany Haddish hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and she didn’t hold back on diving into political and social commentary in her vivacious opening monologue.

In all of the sketches, undoubtedly the first-time host was the best part in every one of them, and even made a quick appearance in the Weekend Update segment (something most hosts don’t do).
