Tiffany Haddish Spills Surprising Details On 'Girls Trip' Sequel Progress

Tiffany Haddish became a breakout star with her uproarious performance as Dinah in the 2017 comedy, Girls Tripalongside Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith. Now, the actress is sharing updates about a potential sequel for the film.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Haddish said that she and her co-stars had a group call on Zoom to check in on one another in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and discussions of a sequel arose.

Haddish said the studio had been looking for a script before moving forward. However, she also revealed that Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the original film with Kenya Barris, reportedly has a treatment in line for the sequel, but alleges money is an issue. "Then it was like, ‘Oh, you guys want too much money,’” Haddish explained. She only made $80,000 for Girls Trip.

Girls Trip, which followed a group of girlfriends during a trip to New Orleans, was made on a budget of $20 million and grossed over $140 million at the box office.

The actress said regardless, they are planning to move forward and meet again on Friday to start writing the sequel. “We might decide not to even make it ‘Girls Trip,’” Haddish said. “Maybe we’ll do a different story just in case no one wants to make Girls Trip 2.”
