Tiffany Haddish recently visited her grandfather’s village in Eritrea. While there, she met with some government officials and bonded with some locals. The actress has been chronicling her time there on her Instagram page.

Haddish’s father left her family when she was just a 3-year-old. She reconnected with him when she was an adult. Her husband at the time, a police officer, helped her find her father.

Tiffany Haddish’s father is Eritrean

During an appearance on Hollywood Medium With Tyler Henry, she spoke of their estranged relationship. 

“My whole point to meet my father was to know genetically, what do I have to expect and just, you know, where the hell your ass been?” she says in the clip. “Where your ass was at when I was out here living in the streets?” she said. Haddish experienced bouts of homelessness at different points in her life.

“I reconnected with my dad when i was like 27,” she says of her last attempt to reunite with him. “I offered to let him come stay with me and let me take care of him and then he disappeared again.”

At the time, she said he’d found her again, but she was apprehensive.  “Now, he reappeared and he says he wants to come stay with me now,” she says. “And there’s a part of me that’s like ‘You kinda missed that boat.’ ”

The ‘Girls Trip’ star shares her experience on social media

Haddish is spending her holiday in Geza Keren, Eritrea, the birthplace of her father and grandfather. She’s been documenting her time in her native country since Dec. 28, revealing to followers that she received an ID there. In 2019, she received citizenship there. She buried her father in Eritrea the previous year.

In one post, the actress wrote: “I am so happy to be welcome by my Grandfather’s village so warmly. I Love my People. #Eritrea.”

She also showed off her smiling with the Head of Public and Community Affairs at the Embassy of Eritrea in Washington.

Her time in the country has been spent doing work in the town, while also attending a spa of sorts and being treated by the locals.

She detailed her experience at the spa in Eritrea called Tsh. “They put butter in my hair, turmeric & honey on my face, Sesame oil all over my body oh and butter in my hot box,” she captioned the post in part. “Then they put burning wood in a hole in the ground and you sit in the smoke and sweat. Baby I am ready to be tasted BRING IN THE MEN. You must try if you come to Asmara. Thank you @hadnetkeleta for taking me I feel Great. #vaginalsmoking.”

While there, she also met with the president of Eritrea to speak about the youth. She has plans to work with the youth of the country in some way but hasn’t revealed exact details.
