Tika Sumpter has landed a lead role oppoiste James Marsden in Paramount’s live-action/animation hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog film at Paramount.

The film is an adaptation of the classic video game.

Paramount first acquired rights in 2017. Jeff Fowler is the director.

Not much is known about the film or her character. The Sonic game revolved around a hedgehog on a quest to defeat a scientist who imprisoned animals in robots.

Sumpter, who wrapped up Tyler Perry’s hit OWN show, The Haves and the Have Nots, has two other film roles lined up The Old Man and the Gun and Perry’s The List, in which she’ll co-star with Tiffany Haddish.

Variety broke the news of Sumpter’s casting.
