Gina Prince-Bythewood And Tina Mabry Adapting 'The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat' For Searchlight Pictures

Gina Prince-Bythewood and Tina Mabry are teaming up to adapt Edward Kelsey Moore's novel The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat. According to Variety, Prince-Bythewood will write the script, while Mabry will direct for Searchlight Pictures. Temple Hill will produce with Searchlight.

Like the book, the film will focus on Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean, three friends from a small town in Indiana known as The Supremes. The three friends call the local diner, Earl's All-You-Can-Eat, their "home away from home," where they discuss their marriages, motherhood and life's ups and downs. Their friendship will be tested as they live through a year of upsets, including racial challenges, health issues and personal heartbreaks that drum up past dramas.

The film comes at a time when Black female friendships are reigniting Hollywood's imagination. The Yvette Lee Bowser-produced Run the World, a series about a friendgroup of Black women making their way in Harlem, will premiere in 2021 on Starz. Amazon also has a comedy series on four Black women from Tracy Oliver and Lee Daniels is also rebooting Waiting to Exhale as a series for ABC.
