Anthony Chisholm has died at 77-years-old. The Katz Company confirmed the Tony-nominated actor’s passing.

Born in 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio, Chisholm was drafted and served in the Vietnam War before he pursued acting.

After returning from the war, Chisholm appeared in theatrical productions of The Boys from Syracuse and The Threepenny Opera at Karamu House in Cleveland, Ohio. He eventually transitioned into film, making his film debut in Julie Dassin’s 1968 film Uptight.

Chisholm eventually appeared in numerous films such as Spike Lee’s Chiraq, My Bakery in Brooklyn, Condemned, Nasty Baby, Newlyweeds, Premium Rush, Black Out, Reign Over Me, and Beloved. He also appeared in various television shows Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Random Acts of Flyness, High Maintenance, Shades of Blue, Detroit 187, Vietnam War Stories and Law & Order: SVU.

Aside from earning a Tony Award nomination, Chisholm was also a recipient of the NAACP Theatre Award. He also received nominations for the Drama Desk and the Drama League.

Chisholm is survived by his son, Alexander Chisholm, his daughter, Che Chisholm, his son-in-law, Peter Vietro-Hannum and grandchildren, Ravi and Avani Vietro.
