'True Detective' Season 3 starring Mahershala Ali and Carmen Ejogo won't premiere until 2019

You'll have to wait a little bit longer for the upcoming, highly-anticipated Season 3 of HBO's true crime anthology series, True Detective.

HBO president Casey Bloys told the news to EW saying, "We couldn’t have it ready for ’18 so you can assume ’19."

While he wouldn't say how this season will stack up to Seasons 1 and 2, he did say, "I think (the scripts are) fantastic. I’m excited. I think people are going to be very happy."

The upcoming season will center around "a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas."

Ejogo's character Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

Stephen Dorff also stars.

No word on when production on the season begins.
