During the entire month of October, the cable channel Turner Classics Movies, in association with Women in Film/Los Angeles, will present "Trailblazing Women," a program of films made by 47 women directors, from the silent ear, to today, with the purpose of raising "the awareness of the history of women working behind the camera."

And, of course, I don’t need to tell you that many of those women behind the camera are black women filmmakers, and several of their films will be among those scheduled to be screened as part of the series, this month on the channel. 

The first will be on Weds Oct. 13 – Euzhan Palcy’s "A Dry White Season." The following week, on Thursday Oct 22, an entire night of independent black films by black female directors will air, starting off with Kathleen Collins’ "Losing Ground" which will be followed the same evening by Juile Dash’s "Daughters of the Dust," Leslie Harris’ "Just Another Girl on the I.R.T." and Ava DuVernay’s "Middle of Nowhere."

And keep in mind that all the films will be shown on the network in HD clarity and detail.

In addition  the evening will be co-hosted by director Julie Dash who will discuss her film along with the other films and the filmmakers that will be broadcast on TCM that night.
