First, veteran actress S. Epatha Merkerson will guest star in Fox’s drama pilot Boomerang. The project, from ER and Shameless producer John Wells, focuses on the everyday ups and downs of a family-run business – except this family business is working as assassins for the U.S. government.
Merkerson will play a mysterious agency bureaucrat.
Davey Holmes (Pushing Daisies, Awake) penned the script and Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) is set to direct.
Second, Mekia Cox has landed a series regular role on another Fox drama, titled Human, from J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman. Described as a futuristic cop series, Human is an action-packed buddy-cop show set in the near future, when all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Michael Ealy was the first actor cast in the pilot, which will star Karl Urban. Ealy will play a character named Dorian, the android partner of LAPD officer John Kennex (Urban), who understands humanity more than his human counterpart.
Meanwhile, Mekia Cox will play Kennex’s ex-lover.
Brad Anderson, who just directed Halle Berry in The Call, will direct and co-exec produce the pilot.
