Fresh off the news that he’s starring in a Teddy Pendergrass biopic that has movement at Warner Bros., Tyrese Gibson has been joined the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff film, Morbius.

The film, which stars Jared Leto in the title role, chronicles the Spider-Man villain of the same name. Like 2018’s Venom, the film is a part of Sony’s slate of Marvel films that are based on Spider-Man properties, and not connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at Disney.

The film is being directed by Daniel Espinosa. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are writing the script.

Varietywho broke the news of his casting, says this of Morbius: The character was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. He became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.

According to THR, will play “an FBI agent trying to hunt down the living vampire.”

Gibson is about to wrap the feature Black & Blue with Naomie Harris and Nafessa Williams and will likely shoot Moribus before Fast & Furious 9.
