'Unbreakable' Sequel in the Works

UNBREAKABLE
UNBREAKABLE

A sequel to “Unbreakable” is something that fans of the film have wanted for a long time, and this is may be as close to one as you’re going to get.

We may as well go ahead and crown Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions a hit-maker, after several hugely profitable films, including Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” and 2 films with M. Night Shyamalan – “The Visit” and “Split.” Made for just $5 million, “The Visit” grossed almost $100 million worldwide; and made for $9 million, “Split” grossed just about $275 million globally. And Shyamalan most certainly needed a commercial and critical hit (or 2 or 3) after a string of *failures*.

And now the 2 – Blumhouse and Shyamalan – are teaming up a 3rd time for what is being called an “Unbreakable”and “Split” mashup sequel to both films. Full details are being kept underwraps for now, but Shyamalan shared the news of the project on Twitter yesterday. See below:

To translate, the film will be called “Glass” and will combine stories and stars from both “Unbreakable” and “Split” – each actor reprising the role they played in the original movies.

The reported plot for “Glass” will center on Dunn (Bruce Willis) as he pursues Crumb’s (James McAvoy) superhuman iteration The Beast, while Price (Samuel L. Jackson) holds secrets critical to both men.

With “Glass” being the title, one might assume that Jackson’s Mr. Glass would be the central character here, but we can’t say at the moment.

The script is done, as Shyamalan shares above, and a 2019 release date has already been set by Universal.

Can Blum and Shyamalan make it 3 straight hits?
