An Academy Award nomination now on her resume, actress Naomie Harris will follow-up her role in the dramatic “Moonlight” with an action movie this time, starring the prolific Dwayne Johnson, titled “Rampage.”

Based on a series of video games released by Midway, the basic premise for “Rampage” (according to the game’s wiki) is that, due to a lab accident, the game player controls a human transformed into a giant monster. The game-play revolves around using your monster to destroy cities around the world while attacking or avoiding police and military forces.

Plot details on the New Line Cinema film adaptation are limited for now, although, like the game, the movie will reportedly feature 3 monsters who wreak havoc on American cities and landmarks. Johnson will play an animal-loving hero who is the world’s only hope, while Harris will star opposite Johnson as a geneticist with a moral streak.

Johnson will also produce alongside Beau Flynn, director Brad Peyton and New Line; they also previously worked on “Journey 2: The Mysterious Island” and “San Andreas.”

Carlton Cuse (“San Andreas”) and his Colony co-creator Ryan Condal will rewrite the “Rampage” script originally penned by “Non-Stop” screenwriter Ryan Engle.

New Line will release “Rampage” on April 20, 2018.

Harris is also set to appear in Warner Bros.’ live-action adaptation of “Jungle Book” which is also set for a 2018 release.

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report the news of Harris’ casting.
