Josie (Ashleigh Murray), her fellow Melody and Valerie Pussycats (Asha Bromfield and Hayley Law) and her mother, Mayor McCoy (Robin Givens) won’t be the only ladies spreading Black Girl Magic throughout Riverdale this upcoming season.

Vanessa Morgan is joining the cast in Season 2 as Toni Topaz. In the Archie Comics, Toni is a character who bonds with Jughead. In the series, she’ll be a member of the Southside Serpents who is bisexual.

In an interview with ET, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said Morgan previously auditioned for a role last year, “We didn’t have a spot for her last year, but I called her after she auditioned and tested and I said, ‘I’m so sorry I’m not going to be able to bring you aboard this year, but I love you and I promise you’re going to come and be a part of Riverdale next year.’ And so I’m thrilled that she’s going to be coming on as Toni Topaz.” He confirmed she’ll sport her signature pink hair from the comics.

“I think [Toni] is trouble getting Jughead into this gang. She might be trouble for ‘Bughead.’ We thought it would be really fun to have a bisexual character on the show, and it’s going to stir up trouble for a lot of people on this panel,” Aguirre-Sacasa said at the Riverdale Comic-Con panel.

Morgan is most known for her roles on several Family Channel (Canada)/Disney Channel’s My Babysitter’s A Vampire and MTV’s Finding Carter and The Shannara Chronicles

Ashleigh Murray’s Josie (who is a series regular) and the Pussycats have been criminally underutilized on the show thus far, so hopefully the trio and Morgan’s Toni get as much screentime as their counterparts.

Riverdale returns for Season 2, this fall on The CW.
