VH1 Orders Kimberly Elise Hour-Long Scripted Sports Drama Series 'Bounce'

VH1 has ordered the Kimberly Elise scripted hour-long drama titled, Bounce, which co-stars newcomer Taylour Paige, Charlotte Ross, Logan Browninghas and Dean Cain.

Sanaa Hamri directed the pilot episode of a series that will focus on the lives and loves of a team of professional basketball dancers.

Bounce follows the lives and loves of the Los Angeles Devil Girls, the dance team for the No.1 professional basketball team in the country. It centers on Ahsha (Taylour Paige), a sheltered young woman who joins the team against the wishes of her mother Sloane (Kimberly Elise), who knows this treacherous, tempting world all too well having been an original Devil’s Girl herself. Olivia (Charlotte Ross) is the shrewd squad manager, Jelena (Logan Browning) is the ruthless star captain of the dance team and Pete Davenport (Dean Cain) is the former All-Star who’s come back to coach his old team only to have to contend with the girls both stealing the spotlight and distracting his players.

Production will officially begin in 2013.

The cast of the show also includes Valery Ortiz, Katherine Bailess, Jonathan McDaniel and McKinley Freeman

Bounce has all the elements we know VH1 viewers love; a world very much on the pop culture radar, an incredible cast and compelling, addictive storytelling. We wanted to create a scripted series at VH1 in which music is a strong narrative force, and we have found that with Bounce, said Jeff Olde, EVP Original Programming and Production.

In a recent interview, Elise rejected the interviewer's suggestion that Bounce may be more like one of VH1's reality TV series, specifically Basketball Wives; Kimberly quickly dimissed that idea (can't blame her), and instead said that it's more like Black Swan, the dark, fantastical, Oscar-winning film (Best Actress for Natalie Portman) directed by Darren Aronofsky

She later clarified that it's not as dark as Black Swan, but that it's similar in the sense that it gives the audience a glimpse at what goes on behind-the-scenes, the mechanics of it all, with the cast of pro dancers that make up the show; and also that it IS indeed a scripted series, not a reality TV show.

But overall, she seemed really excited about it.

No word on whether VH1 will air the pilot episode – which is feature length – anytime soon.
