Victoria Monét jumped into her creativity bag big time for her new “On My Mama” music video, and the culture is loving her for it.

The song has taken social media by storm, thanks to its sample of the Chalie Boy’s 2009 cult classic, “I Look Good.” Monét followed the same formula when it came to the visuals.

The 34-year-old R&B singer flawlessly referenced some of everyone’s favorite entertainers, including Usher, Beyoncé, Ciara and Mýa. She even acknowledged several viral memes and GIFs throughout the video.

The Atlanta native laced the video with nods to southern hip-hop culture, including an homage to the Black sororities and fraternities of the Divine Nine.

The press release states how the visuals “reminds of a significant era in the early 2000s when underground southern music began to take over national airwaves and catch the eye of people across the globe.”

Monét’s Instagram post lists LA-based Grammy-nominated creator Child as the video’s director.

Meanwhile, Sean Bankhead choreographed the dance breaks. The acclaimed dancer who has instructed the moves of Missy Elliott, Megan Thee Stallion, Britney Spears and more.

With the help of celebrity stylist Kollin Carter, Monét rocked Y2K era-style clothing like baggy Gibaud jeans, white “tall tees” with matching fitted caps, and jersey dresses.

The video includes cameos from Chalie Boy, Monet’s mother and her 2-year-old daughter Hazel. Fans have consistently rallied behind the Grammy-nominated singer, but the video seems to have sealed the deal.

Blavity previously reported on the significance of “On My Mama” for Monét. During an interview on The Ebro Show on Apple Music 1, the 34-year-old singer revealed she penned the hit while dealing with postpartum depression.

“This record actually happened in 2021, probably… Maybe eight or nine weeks after I gave birth, right?” she said at the time. “So I’m in the mental space of, I was really having a hard time, I had postpartum depression, I was still breastfeeding, just adjusting to the life, but also in the midst of COVID.”

“On My Mama” is Monét’s follow-up to her most recent singles, “Party Girls” featuring Buju Banton and “Smoke,” which features Lucky Daye.

Ahead of her sold-out The JAGUAR Tour, which kicks off in September, Monét’s first studio album, Jaguar II, will drop on August 25.
