Viola Davis is set to star in and produce G20, an upoming action thriller from Amazon Studios and MRC Film in which she’ll play the president.

The film will be directed by Patricia Riggen, who also helmed 'The 33' and 'Miracles From Heaven.'

Davis and Julius Tennon will serve as producers through their JuVee Produtions. alongside Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance.

The film takes place at the G20 Summit, which is overtaken by terrorists. The film was written by Noah and Logan Miller (White Boy Rick) and revised by Caitlin Parrish and Erica Weiss (The Red Lion). Davis portrays Taylor Sutton, the president of the United States, who must use all of her diplomatic and military skills to protect her family, her other presidents, and, of course, the whole planet.

Julie Rapaport, head of movies at Amazon Studios, said in a statement:

“Viola is truly a one-of-a-kind talent both in front of and behind the camera, and we can’t wait to watch her bring the dynamic character that is President Sutton to life.”

“Viola bringing her unmatched strength, depth and humor to this kind of fun, popcorn movie is something we cannot wait to see,” said MRC Film co-presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman in a statement. “In Patricia, we have the perfect director to balance a grounded character story with a satisfying genre film.”

 

 

Davis currently starring in 'The Woman King.'

She also makes a cameo in WB’s Black Adam, where she reprises her DCEU role as agent Amanda Waller.

Her other upcoming projects include the Ben Affleck-directed Nike film and The Hunger Games prequel.
