The Waiting to Exhale news just keeps on coming in. After Loretta Devine teased a reboot and Terry McMillan confirmed it, ABC has officially set the project. It has a script commitment at the network with a penalty attached.

Confirming McMillan’s tweets the other day,  Attica Locke and Tembi Locke are penning the project with Anthony Hemingway attached as the director.

Per the breaking news report from Deadline, “Waiting To Exhale is infused with the humor, sensuousness, and sincerity of the groundbreaking and beloved original film. The TV reimagining looks at the next generation of our women through the lens of the tangled friendships and complicated lives of their daughters.”

The Locke sisters are executive producers with Daniels and Marc Velez through Lee Daniels Entertainment, Hemingway and Richard Abate and Jermaine Johnson of 3 Arts. McMillan will be a consulting producer.

The original film, an adaptation of McMillan’s novel, was directed by Forest Whitaker and released in 1995, starring Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, and Loretta Devine. It became a classic and one of the most-lauded Black films of all-time.
