We’re currently witnessing Lady Gaga’s red carpet tour for A Star Is Born. But, there was a time when A Star Is Born was going to be Beyoncé’s big role. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out, and now the film’s producer, Bill Gerber, is ready to talk about what happened.

According to Gerber, Beyoncé’s pregnancy caused the delay, which led to her and Clint Eastwood, who was set to direct, dropping out of the film.

“There was a moment where that was the best version of the movie and then all of a sudden, Beyoncé got pregnant. Do we wait?” he said to The Hollywood Reporter. “She was amazing about all this stuff. She always understood if we were going to take a different direction. And then Clint went off and did another movie.”

Gerber seemed to have his heart set on a Beyoncé-led A Star Is Born. When talking about Beyoncé and Eastwood’s first meeting, Gerber said, “I’m sitting here thinking, ‘I’m watching something historic about to happen,’ and then it didn’t. It’s just the movie business.”

Seeing how close Beyoncé was to securing this role, it still makes people wonder how she would have tackled the job. Could this have been her defining role? Could she have been doing the award show press tours and red carpet events like Gaga is? Unfortunately, we’ll never know.
