Watch 15 Sundance 2014 Short Film Picks Online Right Now

For a second year in a row, I’m skipping the Sundance Film Festival (all that film festival traveling gets very expensive for me), although, like last year, there will be some S&A coverage of diaspora films screening at the festival.

If you’re going (most people I know who are, arrived last night, or will be arriving today), safe travels, and stay warm!

Those who are not going, the vast majority of you, can still participate in the thrill of it all (somewhat), as Sundance has made a number of short films in this year’s lineup available for you to watch for FREE on YouTube!

Says the festival:

It goes without saying: Even in an age governed by VOD and digital platforms, there is an inimitable quality to viewing film in its traditional setting. That is (if you forgot), the theater. So goes the Sundance Film Festival experience, which is equally challenging to recreate. Despite that realization, we continue to refine our coverage of the Fesitval with new tools and ambitious angles of reporting.

And one of those tools is the availability of a selection of 15 short films premiering at the Festival on the Sundance YouTube Channel.

Beginning January 16 (which is today), audiences can watch all 15 short films online.

I’ve embedded the entire playlist of 15 films below in one player, starting with directors Alix Lambert and Sam Chou’s mix of humor and stark reality, in an animated documentary short titled Crime: The Animated Series.

Now those filmmakers who submitted their short films to the festival, but were rejected, can see what it takes to get in (at least, what it took to get into the festival this year).
