Dream

Below, check out a short film from Nijla Mu’min (also an occasional contributor to Shadow and Act, currently working on her feature film debut starring Simone Missick). The short piece, titled “Dream,” premiered online on Issa Rae’s YouTube channel as part of her #ShortFilmSundays series.

Adapted from “The Carnival,” a short story by Mu’min, the bittersweet “Dream” follows a 12-year-old girl who hopes to rekindle her parent’s dwindling romance during her desert town’s annual carnival, and learns painful lessons about love in the process.

“Dream” stars Aramé Scott as the title character; she’s joined by Crystal Cotton, Ka’ramuu Kush, Kobie Dozier and Mayumi Rhone.
