The below hour-long conversation with veteran actor and activist Danny Glover is part of British Film Institute’s (BFI) ongoing Black Star project – an exhaustive program and the UK’s largest ever season of film and television dedicated to celebrating the range, versatility and power of black actors, celebrating the relationship between the “black stars” and the audiences who love them, spotlighting great performances by black actors on screen.

The Black Star program is available to audiences everywhere in the UK, including BFI Southbank cinemas, as well as on BBC Television, on DVD/Blu-ray and online via BFI Player from, and runs through the end of the year, December 31, 2016 (it kicked off in October).

In the hour-long conversation, Glover talks to broadcaster Samira Ahmed about his career, growing up in San Francisco, working with celebrated actors throughout his career, the influence of his mother and grandmother on his life, and how his acting developed in films like “The Color Purple” (1985), “Lethal Weapon” (1987) and “To Sleep With Anger” (1990).
