Ryan Coogler’s much-anticipated “Black Panther” movie is still 2 years away from its release, but Marvel wants to make sure that audiences (especially those who aren’t familiar enough with the character and his universe) are properly versed before February 2018.

To that end, the studio launched a new video series a week ago, featuring Atlantic columnist Ta-Nehisi Coates, author of the rebooted Black Panther comic book series (the first issue was released last month; the second is out today), breaking down the African superhero’s world, for the uninitiated.

The first episode, published on this blog last week, gave audiences some basic background on Black Panther’s, aka T’Challa’s home, the fictional African nation of Wakanda, and the dual lives the character lives – as a super-scientist and a superhero.

Installment 2 goes further in-depth, setting up audiences with even more backstory, introducing key players in the comic book series, setting fans up for more of what’s to come, leading, eventually, to what I think we’re all really waiting for – Coogler’s film which will star Chadwick Boseman.

Specific details on what story the film will tell, and what characters will make up the starring cast, are still unknown at this point. But with Coates involved in the overall writing process, I assume the content of the comic book series will serve as a source for the screenplay that will become the film, which is all incredibly exciting given the world and characters Coates is introducing us to here.
