WATCH: Trailer For Real-Life Based 'Farming' Finds Damson Idris Joining A Skinhead Gang, Battling Internalized Racism

July 19 2019

Here's a coming-of-age story unlike any you've ever seen.

Snowfall's Damson Idris stars in Farming, which has released its first trailer. Farming also stars Kate Beckinsale, John Dagleish, Jaime Winstone, Genevieve Nnaji, Gugu Mbatha-Raw. The film is produced by Michael London, Janice Williams, Francois Ivernel and Andrew Levitas.

Written and directed by actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (who also appears in the movie), the film is based on his own real-life story of growing up as a fostered Nigerian boy in 1980s England. According to the official description, Idris's character Femi struggles with his identity and as a consequence, tries to find himself within a skinhead gang.

As shocking as that description is, it still doesn't accurately prepare you for the brutal, thought-provoking trailer. Take a look.

The film won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Festival this June. Idris also won Best Performance in a British Feature Film at the festival. With the film already beginning to rack up awards, count this as one to watch come BAFTA season. Let's hope it also racks up an international Oscars award, too.

Farming comes to UK theaters on October 11. The film will hit US shores on October 25.
