Universal and Working Title have dropped the trailer for Cats, a film adaptation of the iconic musical.

The film introduces Royal Ballet principal dancer Francesca Heyward and also stars Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Ian McKellen, and Judi Dench. Also starring are acclaimed hip-hop dancers Les Twins, dancer Mette Towley, rising singer Bluey Robinson, Royal Ballet principal dancer Steven McRae, Robbie Fairchild and Laurie Davidson.

The studios say, “Cats is a most-unexpected film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved smash musical ‘Cats’ and the poems from ‘Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,’ by T.S. Eliot. Oscar®-winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Les Misérables, The Danish Girl) brings astonishing new technology to transform his cast members.”

The musical is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, playing for 21 record-breaking years at the New London Theatre and having almost 9,000 performances. It was the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. The Broadway production became the recipient of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ran for a 18 years.

The film is due in theaters later this year.
