Today, Film Life, Inc., the organization that produces the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), announced the winners of the 2014 ABFF Movie Awards, in an online broadcast hosted by comedian Chris Spencer (Executive Producer/Creator of BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood) that can be viewed below.
Joined by fellow comedians and actors Anthony Anderson and Cedric the Entertainer, Spencer announced the winners in eleven categories.
The ABFF Movie Awards is a web-based awards platform created to give fans a voice in recognizing the work of persons of African descent in the motion picture industry and outstanding films portraying the Black experience. Beginning in January, 213,000 movie fans from 9 countries around the world declared their choice for best movies, performances and movie studio of 2013 by voting on www.ABFFMovieAwards.com.
“2013 was a breakout year for Black film/stories, filmmakers and actors; we saw an unprecedented number of films of extraordinary achievement and monumental performances. We are happy to have the opportunity to be a part of their celebration,” said Jeff Friday, ABFF Founder/CEO of Film Life, Inc.
The full list of winners below was determined by popular vote from the nominee list compiled by a jury of film critics and entertainment editors from African American media outlets within the U.S. For consideration, films must have had U.S. theatrical release dates between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013, with a minimum two-week run in New York and Los Angeles; as well as have been directed by, written by, produced by or featuring in a leading role a person(s) of African descent. Individuals(actors, directors, producers and writers) must be of African descent.
