Watch: Tavis Smiley in Conversation with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - on Race, Blackness, 'Americanah,' More

nullI appreciated this Tavis Smiley interview with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, which aired on PBS last night, and thought it was worth sharing. In it, they discuss matters that often come up on this blog, specifically, wrestling with what blackness is (from an African’s POV, compared to an African American’s), as well as other Pan Africanist considerations, like the relationship between Black Americans and Black Africans, breaking down social constructs like race (the conversation, or lack of conversation around it, all for the sake of comfort), and of course she talks new novel ("Americanah" which explores some of the aofrementioned topics), the film adaptation of her previous novel ("Half of a Yellow Sun), and more.

I always love listening to her speak. I often find little nuggets of wisdom, as well as quotables (some of which I’ve used from time to time on this blog – specifically, from her popular "Danger of a Single Story" TEDTalk from a couple of years ago):
