'We Are Who We Are' First Look: HBO's Italy-Set Coming Of Age Drama Gets September Premiere

We Are Who We Are, HBO's highly-anticipated limited series from Call Me By Your Name and Suspiria director Luca Guadagnino, has received a September premiere at the premium cabler.

The official description of the show describes it as "a story about two American kids who live on a U.S. military base in Italy [that] explores friendship, first-love, identity, and immerses the audience in all the messy exhilaration and anguish of being a teenager – a story which could happen anywhere in the world, but in this case, happens in this little slice of America in Italy."

Chloe Sevigny, Alice Braga and Kid Cudi are among the established actors on the series, as well as young, upcoming actors Spence Moore II (All American, Five Points),  Jack Dylan Grazer (It, Shazam). Others are singer Jordan Kristine Seamón, Faith Alabi, Francesca Scorsese (Martin Scorsese's daughter in her on-screen debut), Ben Taylor, Corey Knight, Tom Mercier and Sebastiano Pigazzi.

Grazer stars as shy and introverted fourteen-year-old Fraser, who moves from New York to a military base in Veneto with his mothers, Sarah (Sevigny) and Maggie (Braga), who are both in the U.S. Army. Mercier (Mercier) plays Sarah’s assistant. Seamón stars as the seemingly bold and confident Caitlin, who has lived with her family on the base for several years and speaks Italian. Compared to her older brother Danny (Moore), Caitlin has the closer relationship with their father, Richard (Cudi), and does not communicate well with her mother Jenny (Alabi). Caitlin is the lynchpin of her group of friends, which includes Britney (Scorsese), an outspoken, witty, sexually uninhibited girl; the cheerful and good-natured Craig (Knight), a soldier in his twenties; Sam (Taylor), Caitlin’s possessive boyfriend, and Craig’s younger brother; Enrico (Pigazzi), a playful eighteen-year-old from Veneto, who has a weak spot for Britney; and Valentina (Barichella), an Italian girl.
