I was originally going to post a image from Real Steel, but I found instead this ancient image for some ad for that Rock-‘Em-Sock-‘Em toy and I fgured why not? What’s the difference between the toy and the movie? I’ll bet some of you still have that old toy collecting dust in a closet somewhere.
The film’s opening of $29 million was lower than what was hoped for and since the Dreamworks picture was heavily funded by Reliance, a India based company which has a co-financing deal with the studio, reports are that the film has to gross at least $125 million to keep Reliance in the fold. And it looks like Real Steel is going to fall way short of the mark turning into another underperformer for Dreamworks like Cowboys and Aliens.
Meanwhile, the more modestly budgeted and more adult political thriller (and really excellent) $12.5 million The Ides of March did well in less theaters than Real Steel and on way its to making a nice profit.
