June 12 2019

When They See Us is on a roll.

According to Netflix, Ava DuVernay's Netflix miniseries has hit a record on the streaming service. "When They See Us has been the most-watched series on Netflix in the US every day since it premiered on May 31," wrote the service on its Twitter page.

Meanwhile, Linda Fairstein, the head of the sex crimes unit at the Manhattan District Attorney's office at the time of the Central Park Five case, has had to resign from the Vassar College Board of Trustees and Mariska Hargitay's nonprofit Joyful Heart. She has also been dropped by her American publisher Dutton and her UK publisher Little, Brown.

The official description of the series: Based on a true story that gripped the country, When They See Us will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four-part limited series will focus on the five teenagers from Harlem -- Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series will span 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.

Jharrel Jerome, Ethan Herisse, Caleel Harris, Asante Blackk, Marquis Rodriguez, Michael K. Williams, John Leguizamo, Niecy Nash, Aunjanue Ellis, Kylie Bunbury and Marsha Stephanie Blake are among its stars.

When They See Us is now streaming on Netflix.
