Tony-nominated actress Shalita Grant got her start in theatre, appearing in productions in The Merchant Of Venice and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Grant eventually transitioned into television, garnering a starring role in the CBS spinoff procedural NCIS: New Orleans as Special Agent Sonja Percy.

Grant eventually exited NCIS: New Orleans ahead of the show’s fourth season, attributing the show’s toxic work environment as the and lack of care for her hair on set as the main reasons for her departure.

“In theater, it’s us against the problem,” she said. “We all come into the room knowing there are going to be problems, and we all know that we’re going to solve them together,” Grant said in an interview for The Los Angeles Times. “In TV, the relationship to problems is, ‘Whose fault is it? Heads will roll!’ Nobody wants their head to roll. It takes forever for people to solve problems because nobody wants to take responsibility.” After her departure, Shalita Grant founded Four Naturals, which caters to people with Type 4 hair. The actress also made the rounds on the Netflix horror-comedy series Santa Clarita Diet as Agent Tess Rogers, as well as TBS/HBO Max’s Search Party.
