Whoopi Goldberg and Giancarlo Esposito have joined Toni Collette and Thomas Hayden Church in Content Media’s comedy “Shriver,” which will be introduced to international buyers at the Cannes Film Market this month.

The film tells the story of a loner who gets mistaken for a famous reclusive author and assumes the writer’s identity, and in the process falls for an English professor just as the real author surfaces.

No word on what roles Goldberg and Esposito have signed up to play.

Michael Maren is directing the film from a screenplay he adapted from the novel of the same name by Chris Belden.

Josh Kesselman and Alfred Sapse are producing.

“From the very beginning, we just loved the clever premise and I’m already imagining the laugh-out-loud moments that this superlative cast will deliver,” said Content Media president of film Jamie Carmichael. “We’re really excited to be working with Michael, Josh and Alfred on this wonderful comedy.”

The project is currently in pre-production and will film later in the year.
