Whoopi Goldberg‘s granddaughter Amara Skye said that she’s always working on making her grandmother proud, even as she competes for $100,000 on ABC reality series Claim to Fame.
The show features relatives of popular celebrities. Each cast member has to guess who the other person is related to, and if they guess right, the outed relative is eliminated from the running.
In an interview with The New York Post, Amara Skye said that her grandmother’s approval always matters to her, and that she reached out to Goldberg to see what she thought of joining Claim to Fame.
Goldberg thought the opportunity was a fake at first, but once the official paperwork came, Goldberg was onboard.
As Shadow and Act has reported previously, Amara Skye, whose full name is Amara Skye Dean, is Goldberg’s first grandchild. Born in 1989, Skye typically lives outside of the spotlight, raising her daughter (and Goldberg’s great-granddaughter) Charli Rose.
Amara Skye's mother, Alex Martin, is Goldberg's only child with Alvin Martin.
Alex starred in several films in the early ’90s, including her mother’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, as well as Quest of the Delta Knights, American Intellectuals, Call Me Claus and Strange As Angels. Alex has also produced and starred in the 2015 BET reality series, According to Alex. She has also been a co-host with her mother on The View.
Goldberg, of course, is still acting and hosting The View. She will be seen next in 'Sister Act 3,' which is being produced by Tyler Perry.
Perry said he’s excited about the upcoming film.
“We brought on an incredible director [Tim Federle] and Whoopi’s really excited. I think that this is just what the country needs. We need that feel-good moment in the movies where you go, ‘Oh my God, I left there singing.’ That’s my hope,” he said in May.
