Producer Will Packer has sold yet another TV project to NBC – this time, an hour-long "Untitled Female Buddy Cop" pitch, which follows 2 LAPD homicide detectives whose personal lives are messier than any crime scene.
Packer will executive produce, with Korin Huggins (Head of Television for Will Packer Productions), co-exec producing, and Amanda Lasher writing and co-executive producing.
This makes it his 4th sale, following announcements that include: an autobiographical comedy sold to NBC, titled "Like Father, Like Son," which will be inspired by events from Packer’s life, and centers on a recently divorced man in his early 30s who is just starting to enjoy the benefits of being young, successful and single when he learns he has a 15-year-old son from a one-night-stand he had in college (Packer will executive produce, while Michael Pennie will write and co-executive produce, with Korin Huggins, Head of Television for Will Packer Productions, also co-exec producing); another half-hour comedy, also to NBC, titled "#PeopleAreTalking," that will examine matters of race & sex, which he’s teaming up with DJ Nash ("Growing Up Fisher" creator) to develop (Packer will executive produce; DJ Nash will write and co-executive produce; Huggins will co-exec produce; and the third sale is a remake of the 1989 John Candy comedy "Uncle Buck," to ABC (Steven Cragg & Brian Bradley will write and co-exec produce, with Packer and Huggins also executive producing).
Today’s 4th sale comes about a year after Packer inked a first-look deal with NBC/Universal, via his Will Packer Productions banner.
On the big screen, Packer’s next film, the dramedy titled "The Wedding Ringer," starring Kevin Hart and Josh Gad, is set to hit theaters on January 16, 2015. While you wait, out in theaters right now is his latest production effort, the thriller "No Good Deed" (1 of 7 opening weekend number 1 films he’s produced), which stars Taraji P. Henson and Idris Elba. The $13 million movie has grossed over $52 million at the box office to date.
