Will Smith has exited the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel.

Variety, which broke the news that Smith would not be returning, says that he will not return for the DC Comics film due to scheduling, which was the “ultimate factor” and that “the decision was made on amicable terms between both sides with no hard feelings.”

Warner Bros. wanted major characters from the first film to return for the James Gunn-directed sequel and then figure out the remaining cast later. The plan right now is to have Margot Robbie return for the film as Harley Quinn after 2020’s Birds of Prey with Jurnee Smollett-Bell.

The release date for the film is August 6, 2021.

It is unknown if Deadshot will not appear in the film or if Smith’s role will be recast.
