You may recall a while back in October, when it was announced that Will Smith had sold an Untitled Romeo Project to ABC along with his Overbook Entertainment business partner James Lassiter. The comedy TV series is set to star popular Dominican 'bachata' crooner Romeo Santos; he's slated to play a young charismatic man from Washington Heights "who tries to please his very traditional, immigrant father while also creating a life that reflects his new vision of the American Dream."
The comedy is slightly based on Santos' real life experiences. In an interview with VIBE, Santos stated that the project will undoubtedly be a success. He's currently working on his acting craft with a coach.
Santos told the magazine, "I’ve always wanted to get into acting and I’d never though it’d be this fast and this type of project. But I’m really psyched about that. I think we’re trying to stay away from the music aspect of this. The characters have nothing to do with Romeo the artist, but you never know."
Interesting… I'm not really a Santos fan, although I know he's talented; I just haven't paid attention to his music much. He has a huge fan base; I wouldn't be surprised if this project turns into a hit for ABC.
By the way, if you have never heard of 'Romeo,' you can check him out below performing with Usher his new single "Promise"…
