Despite its headline-grabbing visual effects, Gemini Man is failing to make a dent at the box office, standing as one of the lowest openings in Will Smith’s career.

The action film, directed by Ang Lee, has been the subject of negative reviews and an even worse box office return. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is projected to face losses of $75 million or more after a domestic opening of only $20.5 million and a worldwide total of $118.7 million.

The Will Smith-led film is reported to have a budget of over $130 million, 35% of which came from Paramount and Skydance. It also had a $100 million-plus marketing spend.

In addition to being one of the lowest openings of Will Smith’s career, Gemini Man also represents a career-low for Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee.
